A song about when she was a kid. I love the line
Got 50 cents for nothin', and nothin's what I'd do
This was the first Cheryl Wheeler song I heard, on the Ben & Jerry's album. I really identified with this song, especially the 50 cents, which is what my weekly allowance was. ![]()

 - Cheryl Wheeler
 - When I was just a baby on my family's knee
 - My papa used to read me half a book a week.
 - Got fifty cents for nothin', and nothin's what I'd do.
 - I'd talk and sing to no one
 - And everything was true.
 - (Chorus)
 - So mama won't you hold me a little closer,
 - Papa won't you show me a little bit more.
 - I was just a baby, now I'm gettin' older
 - What was all the rush to growin' up for?
 - When me and my best friend went catching frog and snakes,
 - We'd find them in the streams, and put them in the lakes.
 - But oh how time can change you
 - It isn't hard to see,
 - Those things I used to run to
 - Now they come at me
 - (Repeat Chorus)
 - So I wake up every morning later than I should,
 - Feed the cat and wonder if I'm bad or good.
 - Drive to where I'm working,
 - I sing and take my pay,
 - Sometimes I'm so happy
 - Sometimes I just say -
 - (Repeat Chorus)
