This is a song inspired by (among other things) the BP oil spill in the Gulf Coast.
When Cheryl sent me the lyrics, she mentioned she had a friend over to video record the song so that they could put it up on youtube. They heard a really loud lightning crack and saw a ball of light in the room. Her computer was fried from the incident. Maybe Big Oil wasn't happy with her song?
- If I Could Talk to a Genie
- Words And Music By
- Cheryl Wheeler
- If keeping us from keeping up
- Is just what suits BP
- It's working. 'Cause now I can't stand
- To turn on my TV
- Not one more weeping fam'ly
- One more oil encrusted wing
- While their pipe still spews its poison
- And they crap on everything
- chorus
- If I could talk to a genie
- my wish would be
- We'd grab this power
- Blowin 'round for free
- If I could talk to the animals
- I'd hang my head in shame
- 'cause they could be as smart as god
- And I could not explain
- Unmitigated bullshit always makes
- the daily news
- From Lady GaGa's underwear
- To Sarah Palin's boobs
- While every waking minute
- some poor creature tries to swim
- Through a strange and toxic ocean
- till it finally just gives in
- bridge
- Even the muckamuck & poobah
- Gonna feel this fix we're in
- Down in the valley of the moola
- Surely faith is wearing thin
- Guess the saints ain't marchin in
- A dire tale of treachery
- this ruination tells
- With nothing quite as slimy
- as the oil men themselves
- With broken locks, Pandora's box
- will belch and chug and spew
- They have pockets full of profits
- And not an f-ing clue
